The 2018 South Dakota Legislature will discuss many issues that could impact your business.  Take advantage of this opportunity.  A block of rooms has been reserved for the night of February 6, 2018 at the ClubHouse Suites for our group at the rate of $139.00 (queen/queen) plus tax.  To use the block of rooms call for your reservation (605.494.2582) stating you are with the Dakota Valley Business Council by January 5, 2018.

Feb 7    Ribbon Cutting - The Dogwood Pet Hotel & Day Spa
The Dogwood Pet Hotel & Day Spa will introduce their new dog training program, Levels Training, at their upcoming ribbon cutting.  This program is the only one of its kind in the area and will let customers attend class on the night that works best in the schedule and not require weekly attendance.  Please join us at the event to learn more, see demonstrations, get a tour, and enter a drawing for a free punch card.

Feb 8    Ribbon Cutting - Cone Park Skating Rink
The City of Sioux City Parks and Recreation will hold a ribbon cutting to celebrate the recent completion of the Cone Park ice skating rink.  Skating is included with your tubing admission or there is a skating-only option which costs $5.  Skate rental is an additional $3.  We hope you can take a break from your afternoon to celebrate with us!

Tax Environment 2018

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act , recently passed by Congress, contains provisions that affect nearly every business and individual in the country, as well as Iowa's revenues and potential state tax reform initiatives. Jerry Self from Sen. Joni Ernst's office will provide a program detailing this recently passed legislation that makes such significant changes to the US tax environment,

Even the most basic of branding efforts can go a long way to establish growth and success early on. Graphic designer Vaughn Donahue will discuss what goes into a branding process, why it’s so important at the beginning, and how it can impact your first few years in business.

Vaughn Donahue is the owner of Destination Graphic, a graphic and web design company based in Orange City. Vaughn serves clients nationwide and around Siouxland with branding design, print layout, promotional design and web development. Originally from the state of Maine and a graduate of Northwestern College, Vaughn encourages his clients to focus on good design aesthetics and creative marketing to broaden their customer base and establish their visual identity in the eyes of the community.

Sen. Jim Carlin is our guest speaker and will talk about the 2018 session as well as bills and issues important to him.

About Sen. Jim Carlin

Jim Carlin is serving his first term in the Iowa Senate.
Jim has been a resident of Sioux City and an attorney there for over 23 years.  He is a veteran of the United States Army.

Jim’s been involved with the Woodbury County Republican Central Committee, the Sioux City Men of Valor Bible Study, and the Morningside Assembly of God church.  He’s been a School Board member of Siouxland Community Christian School.  He’s volunteered as a nursing home visitation and also with Dismas Charities.  He was a part-time assistant coach for the Morningside College football team and a youth basketball coach of Upward Sports.  Jim’s a member of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the National Rifle Association (NRA), and the American Legion.

Jim and his wife, Donna, have been married for 20 years and together raised three children, Wesley, Whitney, and Hannah.  They are the proud grandparents of Bennett, Anne, and Clara.
